Sigma has set September 30, 2026 as the launch date for its 85mm F1.2 DG | Art, a full-frame mirrorless portrait lens for Sony E-mount and L-Mount. The company confirmed the timing on September 8, following its earlier development announcement.
A fast prime for portraits
The headline specification is the F1.2 maximum aperture, paired with a 13-blade diaphragm. Sigma says the lens uses two HLA focus actuators and includes an aperture ring with lock and click-control switches. The stated weight is 905g for the L-Mount version.
Sigma also lists a dust- and splash-resistant structure. That wording should not be read as a waterproof rating. We have not tested autofocus, weather resistance or optical performance.
What photographers should consider
An F1.2 lens can offer very shallow depth of field, but that makes focus placement an important part of the photograph. For close portraits, decide whether you want one eye, both eyes or more of the face in focus before choosing your aperture. Stopping down remains a creative option even when a lens opens this wide.
Before buying, compare the weight and handling with the lens you use now. A fast prime can be appealing for deliberate portrait sessions, while a smaller lens may suit an all-day assignment. Check the exact mount and your camera’s compatibility before ordering.
