Research-based review of eufy’s published specifications. We have not tested recording reliability, tracking accuracy or image quality in a studio.

The eufy PoE NVR S4 Max combines a fixed overview camera with a motorized tracking assembly and a local network video recorder. For a photography studio, the important question is how those parts cover entrances, loading areas and equipment storage while keeping recordings usable when they are needed.

Separate the overview from the close-up

The manufacturer’s product page describes an upper 4K camera and a lower dual-2K PTZ assembly. Its advertised 16MP figure refers to a multi-lens configuration; readers should not assume every exported view is a single 16MP frame. eufy lists 8x hybrid zoom, including a 3x optical component.

Sketch the actual recording zones before deciding how many units to buy. An overview of a doorway and a close view of an equipment cabinet are different requirements. Ask for exported recordings from a comparable distance. Our guide to the detail a studio camera needs to capture explains why a wide demonstration view can conceal important limitations.

Read storage and channel limits together

eufy advertises local recording and expandable storage. The bundle listing should be checked alongside the recorder specification because included drives, camera counts and accessories can differ between packages. Verify how the selected cameras consume channels and which combinations are supported before expanding a system.

Estimate retention using the actual recording settings, then confirm it after installation. Resolution, compression, frame rate and recording schedule all affect how long a drive lasts. A capacity headline is not a guaranteed number of days. Test exporting a short clip to another computer before relying on the recorder for business records.

Tracking features need a site-specific trial

The advertised bullet-to-PTZ tracking is an assistance feature, not evidence that every moving subject will remain identifiable. Recreate a delivery arrival, a person passing behind shelving and a bright exterior doorway. Repeat the check after dark with the lighting the studio normally uses.

Define who can view, export and administer recordings. Keep software updates and access reviews in the operating routine. Our local-versus-cloud storage guide helps organize the broader ownership questions.

Our assessment

The S4 Max is a candidate for studios that can install PoE cabling and want integrated local recording with multiple viewpoints. Its suitability depends on a verified coverage plan, the correct recorder configuration and acceptable exported footage. We would request a demonstration of those tasks before choosing it on tracking or zoom specifications alone.
